Chicago's G League affiliate filled both basketball leadership roles ahead of its November opener.

The Windy City Bulls have named Alex Kaufman general manager and Quincy Pondexter head coach, filling two leadership roles for the Chicago Bulls' G League affiliate ahead of the 2026-27 season. The team's September 24 announcement also gives Kaufman a role with the NBA club as senior manager of basketball operations.
Kaufman arrives after seven seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans organization. He was general manager of New Orleans' G League affiliate for the 2025-26 season, giving him recent experience with the same level of roster construction and player development that he will oversee in Windy City. His dual appointment connects the affiliate's basketball operation with the Chicago front office, though the club has not announced any roster or assignment decisions as part of this change.
Pondexter becomes the sixth head coach in the affiliate's ten-year history. His most recent job was as an assistant at the University of Washington during the 2025-26 season. He previously coached at Washington from 2021 to 2024 and at USC in 2024-25. Before moving to the bench, Pondexter played in the NBA, including 23 games for the Chicago Bulls during the 2017-18 season.

The two appointments bring different kinds of familiarity to the organization. Kaufman has run a G League front office and now has a defined job with Chicago as well. Pondexter has recent college coaching experience and a brief playing connection to the Bulls. The announcement establishes who will lead the affiliate, but it does not settle how Chicago will use individual players or assign them to Windy City this season.
Windy City's first game is scheduled for November 6 at NOW Arena, according to the official release. That leaves the new leadership group several weeks before opening night. The next concrete steps will be roster and staff decisions; the club has announced the two top basketball appointments, while the on-court shape of the team is still to come. A separate local report also noted the additions to Chicago's basketball operation.
