The Red Sox leave Arlington for a three-game series with Tampa Bay after Thursday's 4-3 comeback over Texas. Boston enters Friday at 82-70, still in the American League wild-card chase, with the Rays waiting at Tropicana Field.
Trevor Story's eighth-inning three-run homer prevented a sweep and changed the tone of the trip, but the margin remains thin. Boston's next three games are against a Tampa Bay club listed at 92-59 on the official schedule, so the series opens with the Red Sox facing one of the league's strongest records.
The opener is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET Friday. MLB's probable-pitchers page lists the matchup and confirms the series timing; the Red Sox schedule also carries games Saturday at 4:10 p.m. and Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET. Those windows give Boston a chance to turn the Texas escape into a road-series gain, but the club first has to account for Willson Contreras' hand after he exited Thursday's win.

The relevant storyline is urgency with unfinished information. Boston's offense showed late life against Texas, Sonny Gray worked 6 1/3 innings, and Garrett Whitlock closed the finale. The Rays series will test whether that recovery carries forward while the Red Sox wait for a Contreras update.
