The Red Sox open a three-game series at Tampa Bay on Friday, the clubs' final regular-season meeting at Tropicana Field. The Rays' official homestand release lists Boston for Sept. 18-20, and MLB's game preview confirms the Friday opener.
The series arrives after Boston's three-game visit to Texas and after Tampa Bay completed a homestand that included the Rays' reported playoff-clinching win over Houston. That gives the opener a useful September frame: Boston is still working through the American League race, while Tampa Bay is playing from a postseason position and can evaluate its roster for October.
MLB's official preview identifies the Rays' final regular-season Tropicana Field series and notes that Tampa Bay swept Boston in the clubs' previous Trop meeting in June. Boston therefore gets an immediate chance to change the recent matchup pattern on the road.

The Red Sox desk should confirm the Friday probable starters and lineups before first pitch. Justin Slaten's season-ending status was also reported by the club ahead of the Texas series, so bullpen availability remains part of Boston's late-season context.
The opener is a meaningful series story even before the first pitch. Boston needs a clean road start, Tampa Bay is protecting its postseason form, and the three-game set gives both clubs a final regular-season read at the Trop.
