  • The Chicago Bears lost their home opener 9-3 to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, a six-point game that turned into a longer-term concern when quarterback Caleb Williams left with a right hamstring injury. Williams was helped from the field and later carted to the locker room after scrambling on a fourth-quarter possession.

  • Williams completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards and threw one interception before leaving. The NFL reported that coach Ben Johnson did not yet know the severity after the game, but said Williams was in good spirits. Johnson said the next evaluation would determine the quarterback's timetable.

  • The Bears' offense never found the rhythm it showed in last week's 59-37 win at Carolina. Chicago reached the Vikings' 1-yard line before D'Andre Swift fumbled, and a potential tying field goal was blocked after Williams left. Tyson Bagent completed four passes for 53 yards and moved the Bears to the Minnesota 12 before Dallas Turner sacked him on fourth down. The NFL reported Bagent would be in line to start if Williams misses extended time.

  • Minnesota finished with four field goals, and Chicago's defense kept the game within one score until the final kick. The Bears fall to 1-1 and return to Soldier Field next Monday night against Philadelphia while they await the medical evaluation on Williams and prepare for the possibility that Bagent takes first-team reps.
